Time out 05:16
Another day, another hero In the ratrace to the top From a nono to the CEO He’s going fast and it doesn’t stop I need to think while time goes on and on I have to be the number one and I just want to lay down in the sun (aaaaaah) Come on mister Referee (aaaaaah) It's all going too fast for me (aaaaaah) I'm on a different frequency (aaaaaah) And you can kill the enemy for a while, or I will never catch up I need a time out I’m really good and have big ambitions But I’m not going fast enough I’m not a man of quick decisions To stay the course is really tough I like to play and keep things open Like always being twenty-one and I just want to lay down in the sun (aaaaaah) Come on mister Referee (aaaaaah) It's all going too fast for me (aaaaaah) I'm on a different frequency (aaaaaah) And you can kill the enemy for a while, or I will never catch up How will I ever catch up? I want the time to stop I need a time out And how I want to lay down in the sun I need a time out to chill I need a time out to think I need a time out to stand still I need a time out to drink I need a time out to relax I need a time out to remind I need a time out to go back in time

We're building We're building the building that we're building And progress we see And proudness we feel No blingbling we need Just concrete and steel

Twelve 04:09
Twelve tones to build this song A carefully chosen sequence It’s indifferent which one comes first Cause they are all equal Did you realize that twelve Has liberating powers Berg and Schoenberg knew it well No need to count the hours Twelve 1-8-7-3-2-6-5-4-11-10-9-12 Music, maths, the months, the stars Twelve is true perfection The apostles and rock and roll Twelve is the connection Twelve 1-8-7-3-2-6-5-4-11-10-9-12

Now that you are famous What entertains us Is every little detail of your private life And when you tell us nothing They'll search in your dustbin And find the information we like You need a shredder You need a shredder You need a shredder You need a shredder You need a shredder in your life When you've got everything to lose You want to keep your secrets to yourself And so you choose The shredder as your best friend You can call him John Though he's the one that sees it all He'll never pass it on The shredder You need a shredder You need a shredder You need a shredder You need a shredder You need a shredder in your life When you've got everything to hide You’ve learned that there is no-one you can trust So you decide The shredder is your best friend You can call him Pete Though he's the one that sees it all He's determined to delete The shredder You need a shredder Is heel je leven openbaar En ben je met die toestand klaar Maak dan je dromen waar Papierversnipperaar

London or Berlin I’m a writer in need for some inspiration So I visit my muse and then I know I can proceed With what I want to do So I’m going to London or Berlin Sometimes you feel that you've dried up Sometimes you feel that you're tied up There’s only one remedy for me It’s leaving right away I’m heading west or east By taking a plane or train to London or Berlin I write in my book that I feel free and I’m happy And when I get a little bit lost I take a quick look On my map and I’m back on track It’s easy going in London or Berlin It’s just a matter of knowing It’s just a matter of going (being) one of the crowd, Just like a pigeon on Trafalgar Square Nothing more and nothing less Than being completely there I meet you on a building site I meet you in Kreuzberg in the middle of the night or meet you by the London eye And then I know.....it’s alright And then I feel....so alive London or Berlin It’s no use to choose They’re two sides of the same coin That’s my muse So I cannot lose When I flip this coin to leave for London or Berlin

Nothing like the sun, The joshua tree Faith and Bad and Actually.... Nothing like the sun, The joshua tree Faith and Bad and... ... Actually my life began in the year that Warhol died I remember Black monday and the Herald of free enterprise Meanwhile I, somehow I got somewhere Like landing on the Red Square And music was always in my mind Always there and always right I dicovered life in 1987 So all my life, I’ll remember ‘87 I started to explore though I'd been around before Being born in 1974 I remember Reagan saying’ let’s tear down that wall’ Perestroyka and Glasnost ruled the headlines after all Meanwhile I, I was feeling quite strong So I recorded my first song and music was always in my mind Always there and always right I dicovered life in 1987 So all my life, I’ll remember ‘87 I started to explore though I'd been around before Being born in 1974 Everybody has their own special year It's deep in your heart Cause it marks a new start in your life And every now and then the music that you hear Suddenly brings you back in time I dicovered life in 1987 So all my life, I’ll remember ‘87 I started to explore though I'd been around before Then I opened up and wanted more Being born in 1974

My second life (free) 04:07
I want to be alone I’m sorry but it’s true I need to slip into my secret world And I’m not prepared to share this world With anyone, so you’ll Just have to wait ‘till I come out of it again O, it’s not that I am mad at you And it’s not that I don’t care or that I Don’t want to be with you It’s just that I feel bad about my life And all the things that I cannot change Though I want to My secret world is good and it makes me quite relaxed My secret world has everything I need It gives me power, new energy And the strength to carry on I’m doing what I want and I feel free O, it’s true that I am hiding And it’s true that it’s not fair To keep a part of me from you But my secret world’s providing Me the part that’s missing here And that's belonging to me too So in this world I lead My second life There’s a picture in my mind That shows exactly how my life should be But it’s not reality And it doesn’t count you out Cause in my secret world you’re still My only love and you’re with me But for now, I really need My second life

Same old building different world Reminding me you're not my girl Eeach single day is just the same Aall the walls speak out your name We keep passing on the stairs But you act so unaware Not a single sideways glance Not a whisper of a chance Still you act so unaware Like you couldn't, wouldn't care for me Like you did before Am I so much different now ? Go on show me how Same old building different times Separate futures, once aligned Nervous pauses with your friends I watch the signals that they send This is killing me inside You know it's something I can't hide Maybe I could understand If you just reached out a hand You've moved on to better things Found success and what that brings Though it doesn't stretch to me You're living on another plane Things won't be the same

Snowball 03:50
Well I climbed and here I stand I’m alone and need a hand So help me Push my snowball off the top! No I don’t talk double dutch It’s quite heavy, it’s just too much O help me Push my snowball off the top! Well, it's well prepared and the snow is thick So it has potential to grow real big And when it's runnning, It won’t easily stop So come on and help me out Should I scream or should I shout Who’s gonna Push my snowball off the top! (Het sneeuwbaleffect) Well he climbed and there he stands He’s alone and he needs a hand So let’s help him Push his snowball off the top! No he didn’t talk double dutch It’s quite heavy, it’s just too much So let’s help him Push his snowball off the top! (Het sneeuwbaleffect) (I’m gonna need a shredder)

BONUSTRACKS on: alanlauris.bandcamp.com/album/different-frequency-extras-digital-bonus

OOR:

'Alan presents a new album filled with traditional synthpop with a somewhat new romantic feel, with one quirky, fun song after another.'

Musicfrom.nl:
'Die eigen stijl is precies hetgene dat Alan Lauris boven veel andere singer/songwriters doet uitsteken.'

'Veel nummers op zijn album blijven opvallend goed hangen. Zo klinkt 'You Need A Shredder' alsof het rechtstreeks TMF op zou kunnen. Het is samen met openingsnummer 'Time Out' één van de fijnste liedjes op deze plaat.' 'Al met al maakt Alan Lauris unieke muziek.'

Radioindy.com:
'With a cool, restrained tenor voice not unlike Sparks’ Russell Mael (sans Mael’s outrageously wicked flights of falsetto), Lauris delivers proto-dance pop with an infectious nod-and-a-wink exuberance that’s irresistible.' 'the frenetic, “The Ratrace” (which is a little reminiscent of the wonderful 70’s Sparks knock-off band, Jet) is brilliant'

MyMusicSuccess.com:
Different Frequency has painted an aural landscape that's strongly reminiscent of the 80s electronic new wave and pop techno mixed with a small dash of 70s progressive rock sans guitar prominence.
